This panel will discuss the translator’s role as cultural mediator nationally and internationally. We will reflect on making Romanian and Canadian authors available across borders, as well as on the role of translation in multicultural societies. Special attention will be given to introducing Romanian-Canadian writers to the English and French-speaking readers, considering translation and self-translation. The participants will share their experiences in preserving an original’s authenticity, while negotiating cultural differences and making it understandable for readers in different countries.
Participants: STEPHEN HENIGHAN, CHRIS TĂNĂSESCU, DIANA MANOLE, FELICIA MIHALI, CRINA MARIA BUD.
Moderator: DIANA MANOLE.
The participation of Diana Manole and Felicia Mihali is funded by the Literary Translators’ Association of Canada/Association des traducteurs et traductrices littéraires du Canada.
