Max Fraser is an independent Yukon filmmaker who is developing a documentary feature called “Finding Joe Boyle,” the epic story of a Canadian mining mogul in service to the Queen of Romania during WW1, for international release. The project took Max through Russia, Ukraine, Moldova and Romania in February and March of 2018, almost 100 years to the day after many of the adventures took place. The producer is also seeking to develop the same story of Klondike Joe Boyle (“The Saviour of Romania”) and Marie of Edinburgh as a TV drama series or feature film.
Max’s most recent production is “Bond of Strangers – The OpHusky Digital Experience.” The interactive website extends the 54-minute TV documentary “Bond of Strangers – The Operation Husky Story” which was released in the fall of 2015. The film continues to air on documentary channel across Canada and in B.C. on Knowledge Network, as well as Northwestel Community TV, and is available on DVD, Blu-ray and at Vimeo On Demand.
Max has produced a two-part TV mini-series, the comedy-drama Broke Down Dawson Town, which was written and directed by Lulu Keating of Dawson City. This northern producer is also known for his short films and the award-winning TV documentary “Never Happen Here – The Whitehorse 9/11 Story” about terrifying events in the Yukon on 9/11.
Max serves on the board of Screen Production Yukon Association and is a member of the Yukon Film Society and the Documentary Organization of Canada. His career began in 1974 when he came to the Yukon from Vancouver to work as a reporter/photographer for the Whitehorse Star. A Yukon resident since then, he has worked in communications, book publishing, printing, politics and Yukon aboriginal relations.
