Television producer, journalist, musician, traveler
Raul recently produced and directed his third documentary film “The Village that Crossed the Ocean – Boian” as part of larger project with OMNI/Rogers Television that hosts his weekly Romanian language show, NOI ROMANII for the past 15 years.
Raul hails from Timisoara, Western Romania where the revolution started in December of 1989. As a contributor for the student newspaper, Forum Studentesc, he developed a desire to further his career in journalism. Following a BBC training in broadcast journalism, Raul worked in Romanian media as an anchor and producer for Europa Nova TV, at the same time writing for several daily newspapers until he decided to emigrate.
In Canada, since 1995 he continued along the path of journalism aimed at Canadian-Romanians with radio programs (Radio Nostalgia on CIRV FM 88.9 and CHKT Fairchild 1430 AM), then a newspaper (Jurnalul Romanesc) and currently with a TV show, Noi Romanii at OMNI/Rogers Television.
In 2005 Raul produced his first documentary, “The Hero and the Queen” that explored the destinies of two exceptional individuals, Queen Marie of Romania and a Canadian lieutenent-colonel, Joseph Boyle. In 2007 OMNI TV aired Raul’s second venture, “Following the First Christians” (Pe urmele primilor crestini), filmed in Israel and Jordan. Raul’s most recent work documents the journey of the first Romanian settlers in Alberta: “The Village that Crossed the Ocean – Boian” (Boian – Satul care a traversat oceanul). All three documentaries have been aired in Canada, coast to coast by OMNI/Rogers Television.
